Situated about 10 kms from the Port of Patras in the northern Peloponnese lies the beach of Faros. The consistent wind at this spot makes it very popular with both the locals as well as visiting surfing enthusiastics. This spot if definitely not suitable for beginners since the winds and currents can be very strong. However, it does suit surfers of all types who know what they are doing and are confident in the water. Surfing is possible pretty much all year round.

Beach
-
The beach is not all that large and is made up of sand and pebbles. There is a small spot to launch a kite. The beach is not a popular one with tourists and so surfing is possible at any time of the year and there are no restrictions. You can get here by driving from the Port of Patras for about 10 kms in the direction of Athens on the old national road. When you reach the village of Drepano take a left turn towards the concrete factory of Titan. Then keep on the right until you reach the beach.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best winds are in the summer when the thermals kick in. They start in the early afternoon about 2 pm and blow right through until around 8 pm, reaching strenghs of 4-6 B.ft sideshore. All wind directions work well here. The water is clear with flat water on one side and waves on the other. The currents can get very strong so not a spot for beginners. The summers are hot and you can get by with just a pair of shorts, Come the winter, though, and you will need to suit up accordingly.
-
Facilities
-
There are shower facilities on the beach and a couple of bars where you can buy some refreshments. In addition there is a fully manned rescue center should you get into difficulties. For accommodation and supplies head back into Patras where you will find all that you need. The nightlife is not bad there either.
-
Safety
-
Be very careful in the strong winds and be aware of strong currents in the water.
