General Information

Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — August 31

Kitesurfers and windsurfers of all ability levels will love this typically gorgeous spot on the northwest coast of the island.

Beach

The beach is only small but it’s all sand and has some of the easiest water access a kitesurfer is ever likely to find.  Unusually for the island it can get busy between February and April, so you’ll need to watch out for crowds at these times.  It’s warm all year round, with the water temperature always in the high 20’s, so there’s no need to pack a wetsuit.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The best months are from June to August, with the wind blowing in from the east fairly consistently and often giving several days at around 25 knots.  The rest of year has lighter winds, but they are still useable – it just means that outside the main months you shouldn’t expect anything more than about 15 knots. The water is shallow at first, then drops off steeply past the reef.  It’s usually flat, but you can get some decent sized waves if a hurricane happens to pass to the north of the island.

Facilities

This is a place that has built up around the popularity of watersports in the area.  There is a school here where you can get lessons if you are a beginner or just want to improve your techniques, and you can also hire or buy gear if you need anything.  There are beach patrols too, meaning rescue is on hand if needed, and parking is on the grass behind the beach.  It’s accessible by public transport too, just ten minutes walk from the nearest bus stop.

Safety

The beach has the odd shell buried in the sand, and the water has some rocks dotted about that you will need to steer clear of.  There is also a reef but it is clearly marked and shouldn’t be a problem.
