General Information
Level:7-9 Season:September 1 — February 29 -
Flagler is one of the few remaining places in between St Augustine and Daytona Beach that has not been left to the tourist crowds, though developments are surely in the way to change all that. Nonetheless, Flagler is better known as a major fishing spot, as the town installed an 806 ft long pier. Swells whip through the pier, creating decent waves for surfers. Wind and kite surfers, however, appreciate Flagler’s wide open beaches.

Beach
-
The great thing about Flagler Pier is that it breaks on just about any swell, all thanks to the humongous pier. Best seasons are in the fall and winter (September to February).
-
Wind&Waves
-
Waves average around 3 ft , but on good days, they can get as high as 10 ft . Conditions change throughout the years, but for the most part, the waves get better on a low tide. Wave and kite surfers gear up longer boards and bigger sails in order to take advantage of the 13 mph westerns winds that are typical all year round. Just like most spots of the northern Florida coast, the water heats up to where you only need shorts or a bathing suit, but beginning in September, the water dips to below 50 F , and you’ll most certainly need a wetsuit.

Facilities
-
The town of Flagler is a calm beach town that you can access right off of A1A. It has a couple of places to eat as well as some moderately priced hotels. Need something else to do while you’re here? Go on down to Daytona, a major spring break and speed racing Mecca. This place has all sorts of things for you to keep your mind off of things.

Safety
-
Sharks are a real hazard here, especially since fishermen are throwing chum from the pier.
