General Information
Level:7-9 Season:April 1 — September 30 -
It’s no wonder that some people call Floras Lake, “the world’s loneliest beach.” Here is a freshwater lake whose sandy beaches are closed in by imposing rocky cliffs. This place looks like a scene right out of a survivor movie.

Beach
-
Despite what strangers think, this place has been a treasured spot for kite and wind surfers, and is an excellent spot for those who want to learn.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The water of Floras Lake is shallow for the first couple hundred feet, and then falls deeper as you travel out. On the windward side, you’ll be overwhelmed by the smooth-as-glass water. Average wind speeds throughout the year are around 11 knots, but as the afternoon approaches, it can peak at 34 knots. Although this is fantastic, the wind can be inconsistent, and can be gusty in some spots. Normal wind and kite surfing begins in April and runs until the end of September. Even in the summer months, the water is cold all year round, so it’s best to not leave home without your wetsuit.

Facilities
-
Floras Lake is 30 minutes south of Eugene. Though very secluded, the lake is equipped with bathrooms, showers, food, parking, lifeguards, and a camping area. The great thing about Floras Lake is that it has a kite surf housed right along the shore. When not riding, kayaking and fishing are also big sports to enjoy in the area.

Safety
-
Your biggest threat here is getting entangled with the many trees lining the shoreline.
