General Information

Level:3-10 Season:May 1 — September 30

The jetty is a place for experienced surfers, and it’s obviously more of a challenge than the sheltered cove to the north.  The waves aren’t big, but they’ve got other qualities that make up for that.

Beach

What beach there is here is stony, with large rocks at either end and backing on to scrubby grass.  The jetty is actually a breakwater and extends way down the left side of the beach, forcing the current up towards it and potentially making the paddle out a bit more difficult than you might otherwise expect.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

There is only one good direction that the swell ever comes from, and that’s the west.  This is also a post where you need to time your ride, as it only really works at the mid-tide position and when the tide is rising.  The waves start at less than 1m and hold up to 2.5m, perhaps a bit more, and the waves breaks on a jetty and only ever on the right.  While the waves aren’t very big, they are powerful and they come in fast so you need to be ready for them.

Facilities

The parking is provided by the State, so there is enough of it but you’re going to have to walk a while from the lot down to the beach – it’s a bit further down the Cape than the more popular beach spot.  Camping is available all year round and the sites have varying levels of facilities, from bare grass to full hook-ups.  Rest rooms and showers are also provided nearby.

Safety

Aside from the waves, you need to stay clear of the rocks that make up the breakwater and the currents that swirl around the point can be strong.  Technically, it’s also a private beach so don’t act like you own it.
