General Information

Level:4-10 Season:May 1 — September 30

Originally the site of a coastal defence protecting Puget Sound, this area has long since become a State Park.  Experienced surfers come here now in the hope of catching the elusive but excellent big waves that can roll in.

Beach

The surface is here is more shale than stone or sand, and you’ll want to wear boots to protect your feet from sharp pieces.      It’s a quiet spot during the week, but during summer weekends or vacation times it can get crowded.  Temperatures around here are relatively temperate, hardly going over 25c in summer and rarely dropping below freezing even in the middle of winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

A good east wind can set this place up well, and the swell is best when coming from the northwest or west, though s it’s a fickle spot even that doesn’t guarantee a good wave.  It’s useful only at low tide after a falling tide, when on a good day it will start working at an impressive 3m and hold up to an even better 5m and more.  It’s a point break, only breaking left, and the waves are hollow or ledgey but fast with it.  Length isn’t very impressive, averaging no more than 50m on most days, but a good day can see up to 150m.

Facilities

There is a campsite right by here and restrooms not too far away, though the beach has no facilities of its own.

Safety

The locals here are laid back but won’t like it if you either drop in on them or don’t have the ability to surf it, and the rocks will break your board if you try to take the wave for everything it has.
