General Information

Level:5-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

Situated on the eastern coast of Italy in the Abruzzo region lies the beach at Fossacesia Marina. It is a popular spot with kite surfers of intermediate and expert levels. It is not advisable for beginners to practice here because of the wave breakers/groynes placed all along this stretch of coast. The beach does get busy in the summer, particularly June, July and August and as a result there may well be surfing restrictions in place during this time. You might want to check this out before you set off. The best times to surf here are between April and October when the thermal winds kick in.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The main wind direction is coming at you from the north east and this direction works well here. During the months of June through to September, the thermal winds kick in with daily wind speeds of somewhere between 10-18 knots and are pretty consistent throughout this time. The water quality is clean and conditions are choppy with small waves. The water temperature falls somewhere between 12-26 degrees depending upon the time of year, so you may want to suit up accordingly.

Facilities

Parking

There is plenty of parking here along the beach. The town of Fossacesia has a good selection of shops, bars, restaurants and accommodation. The larger town of Pescara is a little more lively and is only a short drive away.

Safety

This is a fairly safe spot, however be mindful of the wave breakers/groynes and keep a look out for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
