General Information

Level:0-3 Season:April 30 — October 1

This is actually an island just south of the main part of Long Island, but you get the point – it’s close enough. It’s a beginner’s wave here, nothing too tricky or challenging.

Beach

You’ll need to pay an entrance fee to get on it, but the beach is clean and sandy and generally a nice place to be. Summer here is fairly warm, maybe reaching 27c or so, and the fall is mild enough to manage with a wetsuit and maybe a vest if the wind is blowing.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

It counts as a good wind direction here if it is coming out of the north or northwest, and the swell is best when coming from the southwest or south. It starts working at less than 1m, and holds up to about 2m, though you have to catch it at low tide for it do anything at all really. It’s a pretty tame beach break, both right and left, and the waves are pretty ordinary but still enough to interest beginners. Length is good, averaging over 100m on a normal day and over 250m on a good day. Because it’s so easy to surf, it is also a popular spot and if you think it’s crowded during the week, you want to head down here at weekends when you won’t be able to move for boards.

Facilities

For such a small community, it has good facilities. Lifeguards are on duty during the day, and there are public restrooms and showers all over. There are also plenty of stands selling food and drink, and parking is plentiful and close to the beach access.

Safety

There are no dangers to worry about here, it’s a safe spot and it’s just there for you to enjoy.
