General Information
Level:5-10 Season:May 1 — October 1 -
Despite the name, there are no goats here and it is in fact a bird sanctuary. Sitting in the middle of the gorgeous Malaekahana Bay, just past the town of Kahuku, it catches the swells and the winds which make for an excellent big wave spot for experienced surfers.

Beach
-
The island is close enough to the mainland that you can easily paddle across to it, and the beach is sandy and clear. It is usually pretty empty, not many people bother coming here to surf, and even at weekends you won’t see more than one or two surfers out.
-
Wind&Waves
-
A good wind direction here is when it is from the west, south-west, or south while the swell is best when working against it and coming from the north, north-west, east or north-east. It is only good at the high tide position and on a rising tide, when it will start working at about 1 m to 1.5 m and hold up to a maximum of about 4 m, maybe slightly more. It is a reef break both right and left, and the waves here are fast and powerful, but there are also hollow. Length is about normal on most days, being about 100 to 150 m, but on a good day can be very long and reach between 300 and 500 m. The best time to be here is during the summer months, as it is one of the few places on the east coast where there are decent waves.

Facilities
-
You won’t find any lifeguards or surf shops on this beach. Kahuku is a decent sized town though, and has a few things to keep you entertained if not surfing including hiking fishing and art galleries.
-
Safety
-
Beware of the currents round here as they can be quite strong, and the rocks and the coral on the reef can be sharp.
