General Information

Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — October 1

This place can be a bit hit and miss, but if you are in the area when it does fire then head down here for a look.  It’s suitable for all surfers and has a fun atmosphere – at least if it doesn’t go off there are plenty of things to do here.

Beach

The beach is a pleasant enough place, being made up of clean soft sand that back on to grassy, tree lined areas.  It can be crowded at times, especially in summer, but oddly you won’t see more than a couple of other surfers out here most of the time.  Windsurfers and kitesurfers come here, but their part of the beach is further north and they shouldn’t get in the way.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The wind is good when it is coming from the north or northwest, and a good swell comes from the north, northwest or northeast.  It works on both low and mid tide positions, but you really need to be on a rising tide for it to do anything at all.  It will start working at less than 1m, and about the most you’ll ever see is 1.5m – 2m, and although the waves are pretty much powerless they can be ledgey and a decent ride.  It’s a point break, left, and the length is always short at no more than 50m.

Facilities

There is plenty of parking close by the beach, though even this can get full and you might need to use the overflow area which will add about 5-10 minutes to your walk to the shore.  There are restrooms on the beach and lifeguards also patrol here.

Safety

There is a yacht club just south of the beach so you’ll need to be aware of the boat traffic that uses the Sound, although it shouldn’t be a problem unless you are really unlucky.
