Situated on the northern coast of Italy around the bay from the city of Trieste lies the spot at Grado Pineta. It is a great spot for wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. It does get pretty busy with tourists on the beach during July and August. However in low tide a large sandbank is revealed which is ideal for kiters and surfers to launch from. The rest of the season, the beach is pretty much empty. The best times to surf are between April and September when the thermal winds kick in.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The spot here is a large beach that is made up of sand, small pebbles and grassy dunes. During low tides there is a large sandbank that can be used to launch from so as not to disturb the sun bathers. To get here you will need to drive around the bay from Trieste following the signs for Monfalcone, when you get here you will see the signs for Grado Pineta and the beach. Here you will find plenty of parking close by.

The main wind direction is north east and this direction works really well here. The water quality is clean and conditions are flat to choppy with a large shallow area where the sandbank is. The water temperature remains somewhere between 12-26 degrees depending upon the time of the year, so you may need to suit up accordingly.

Parking

There is parking close by and the town of Grado Pineta has a handful of shops, bars, restaurants and some accommodation. If you are looking for a lively night out then follow the bay round to Trieste. Here you will find plenty of bars to party the night away

Safety

Shipping traffic

This is a fairly safe spot. Be mindful of swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months and keep a look out for passing ships and boats also.
