General Information
Level:4-10 Season:March 1 — October 31 -
This is named after the whales you can often see near the surf line in spring, and although it’s not the easiest place to get to it is worth a look if you are in the area. Only experienced surfers should attempt it, as beginners can easily be caught out here.

Beach
-
The beach here is clean and sandy and has a fair bit of width and length, but it’s also a nudist beach. Right off Highway 1 between Montara and Linda Mar, it’s easy to find but you’ll need to walk down the stairs and along the path for about 20 minutes before you hit the beach.

Wind&Waves
-
This is a very consistent spot, giving quality waves for a large portion of the year. The best wind comes from the southeast, east or northeast and combines with a west or southwest swell. The swell starts working at less than 1m but quickly builds and holds at 5m or more. It is a beach break, both right and left, and although the waves are usually short they are fast and powerful. The spot tends to get bigger waves than most other spots in the area, and it is rarely crowded or even busy. The paddle out can be difficult on big days, but is worth the effort.

Facilities
-
Nothing much to speak of here, but Montara is just to the south if you want to stay somewhere with a rustic feel. Alternatively, to the north is Linda Mar, which offers more modern facilities and even what is called ‘the worlds most scenic’ Taco Bell.
-
Safety
-
It’s a nudist beach, be warned. Oh, and take care not to get pulled out by the rips.
