General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Guadalmar is an ocean spot situated on Spain's southern coast in the province of Malaga not far from the tourist resort of Torremolinos. It attracts wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities and there are absolutely no restrictions here, even in the height of the summer. There is no particular season here but it may be prudent to avoid the busy summer season, July and August particularly.
-
Beach
-
The beach here is pretty big, with soft white sand. There are no hazards to worry about other than potential bathers during the summer.. How you find it is to take the E7 Autopista from Malaga heading west towards Algecieras/Cadiz just past the airport you will see signs for Playa Guadalmar, turn off here and park. From here it is a short walk right on to the beach.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The predominant wind direction here is west northwest, however between the months of May and September it switches to a south easterly direction. Any direction is good but west is favourable. The wind speed remains at a pretty consistent 8-9 knots most of the year, only slightly dropping during the summer. The water here is flat to choppy and the water quality is clean. The water temperature hovers somewhere between 18 degrees in the winter and 26 degrees in the summer so you may need a long wetsuit in the winter but for the rest of the year a shorty or shorts will suffice.
-
Facilities
-
There is plenty of parking here although it does get pretty busy in July and August. For shops, bars, restaurants etc, then you need to take the short trip into Torremolinos. If you want a bit of night life, then Torremolinos is also the place.
-
Safety
-
There isn't too much here to worry about, but just be mindful of bathers and swimmers during the busy summer season.
