General Information
Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — July 31 -
This is a spot where everybody comes together regardless of their chosen craft. It is suitable for all levels of experience and is off a very nice beach looking out across the Gulf of Mexico.
-
Beach
-
: The beach isn't particularly wide but it is several miles long so you’ve got no excuse for being unable to find a space. It is sandy and clear and despite being a popular spot it is rarely crowded. The fall and spring are the most comfortable time in terms of weather as the air temperature will be in the mid-20s then.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind blows most of the year round at between 10 and 15 knots although it does tend to tail off a bit in August and September. You'll find it is most consistent when blowing from the south-east and the very best months are from April to July. Access to the water is very easy, the water is shallow and clean, and once you are out on it you will find waves up to about 3 m high.
-
Facilities
-
The beach itself doesn't have any facilities, but then it doesn't need to as the town of South Padre Island is right behind it and offers a range of accommodation, restaurants, and nightlife. Access to the island itself is pretty easy, you just need to drive over the bridge from Port Isabel.
-
Safety
-
There are no hazards around here really, though you might want to watch out for the vehicles that tend to use the beach as a road.
