General Information

Level:10-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Haffkrug is just one of a selection of surfing spots in the Lubecker Bucht region of Northern Germany. Facing out onto the Baltic Sea it offers good conditions for wind, kite and surfers alike of all levels and abilities. Facilities here are good, and although there is no particular season, the beach does get pretty busy with tourists in the height of summer so swimming zones are set up and there are fees to access the beach.

Beach

Haffkrug offers a wide expanse of sandy beach which is pretty long, so you should be able to pick your spot, season permitting of course. Here’s how to get here….

Take the A1 northbound out of Hamburg towards Lubeck, exit A1 when you see the signs to Haffkrug, follow the signs to the beach and park up.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The winds are generally frontal westerly with depressions with the average wind speed being around 9 knots. The best wind conditions come from a north easterly and easterly direction and tend to occur more during the summer months, but not very often. The quality of the water is clean with onshore winds creating smaller waves (up to 1 meter) which can, however, get larger with gusty conditions. In general though, water conditions are flat to choppy. Water temperature hovers at around 15 degrees in the summer, but the winters can be very cold with water temperatures only going just above freezing so make sure that you suit up accordingly

Facilities

Like most places in Germany it is well equipped. There are toilet and room facilities along with a rescue center, eating places and parking (they do charge in the summer)

Safety

Beware of restricted zones in the summer months.
