General Information
Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — September 30 -
Another remote spot in the unspoilt wilderness that is Alaska, this can be used by kitesurfers and windsurfers of all ability levels.
-
Beach
-
The beach is mainly sand with a few pebbles mixed up with it. This is a river mouth, coming down from the mountains into the ocean, and the water is always cold. You’ll be able to manage with a decent wetsuit here in summer, as the air temperature will about 14c or so although the water will still be cold, but any other time will almost certainly need a decent drysuit.
-
Wind&Waves
-
This spot has a good long season by Alaskan standards, providing rideable wind from April until September. The good wind directions are from the south, south east or southwest, and you’ll get speeds up to about 15 knots in spring, fall and winter. Summer winds tend to be lighter, though they are still rideable and more predictable as well as consistent. The area is shallow, and although it’s often flat you get times when it will be choppy or even giving small waves. Water is cloudy but it’s still clean, the colour is only from the sediment running down from the mountains. The current can pick up a bit in spring during the thaw, but it’s independent of tide despite being close to the ocean.

Facilities
-
Well, you can park here. If there’s something to be said for the acres of space around here, it’s that you won’t have trouble parking.
-
Safety
-
There are no safety worries as long as you are properly equipped for cold water.
