General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — September 30 -
Turn your back on the industrial setting and you’ll see a fantastic view of the Olympic Mountains instead. This surf spot is suitable for all and is a friendly place to be – it’s been a well known spot for decades and everyone is pretty chilled here.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and wide but not very long, and it actually has quite a steep slope down to the water. It’s a place that is devoid of surfers most of the time, even weekends won’t see more than a handful out. It’s a cool place generally, summer temperatures don’t tend to exceed the low to mid twenties and during the winter you are probably looking at temperatures just around freezing.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind comes in best from the southeast or east, and the swell is best when working against it and coming from the west. It doesn’t need military timing to be out here as it works on all tide positions and both rising and falling tides, and it will start at about 1m before building up to about 2m – 2.5m on a good day. It’s a standard beach break really, both right and left, and the waves are hollow and fast. Most days the length isn’t very good, rarely getting more than 50m, but a good day can give up to 150m.
-
Facilities
-
Parking is provided on the lot right next to the beach, so you can almost open your car door and be on it. The beach has no facilities, but the town of Westport isn’t far away and should be able to supply everything you need.
-
Safety
-
There are some strong currents if you head too far out, but staying inside the bay should avoid this problem.
