General Information
Level:3-10 Season:March 1 — October 31 -
Kite and windsurfing is popular here, and it’s suitable for intermediate levels or above. It is just to the south of Stony Point, and the current here is a little bit slower than many of the other points on the Hudson.
-
Beach
-
There isn’t really a beach to speak of, it’s really just a small grassy area that is used for launching. It’s clear and smooth though, so you shouldn’t have any problems getting out unlike some of the other beaches that tend to collect river debris. Wear a normal wetsuit in spring and fall, when the temperatures will be in the low to mid teens.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Winds will blow anytime there is a depression nearby, though they aren’t always very strong and will sometimes struggle to reach 10 knots, especially in summer when the weather is more settled. The best wind directions here are either west or southwest, and you’ll get 15 - 20 knots in the spring and fall. The water is almost always flat, and even when it’s not you’ll only see a slight chop on the surface. The current is only weak here, there are no tides to worry about, and while the water isn’t clear it isn’t really dirty either.
-
Facilities
-
There is a decent sized parking lot not far from the beach, and you can buy food here too if you’re hungry. There isn’t anywhere nearby to get equipment though, so you’ll need to make sure you have everything you need with you before setting out.
-
Safety
-
The bottom is rocky so be careful not to catch any with your board, and there is often other traffic on the river, especially boats that you’ll need to keep away from.
