General Information

Level:0-5 Season:May 1 — September 30

This is the site of an old naval jetty, and is a spot that really only suits beginners – there isn’t much to challenge those with any experience.

Beach

The beach is all sand, surrounded by some large dunes, and is all within the state park. The spot is found on the east coast of the park – follow Dune Road south and before you get to then of the road you’ll see the lighthouse. Park up where everyone else is, then take a walk for 5 minutes or so across the dunes to the shore.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

A good wind direction here is from the northwest, west or southwest, and the swell is best when coming from the south or southeast. It starts working at less than 1m and holds up to about 2m, slightly bigger on a good day. It is best at low and mid tide, though it doesn’t matter if the tide is rising or falling. A point break, only ever to the right, it is fun for beginners but doesn’t really have any power behind it. It usually offers a long ride, over 200m even on a normal day and reaching up to 500m on a very good day. It s generally crowded, even during the week.

Facilities

There is a bath house with showers nearby, and camping is allowed within the park. For a wider choice of facilities, the nearby town of Lewes is a popular destination for tourists.

Safety

There are some rocks that need to be avoided, i.e. the jetty, and some locals can be protective of it, especially when there are a lot of tourists in the water.
