General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
An increasingly popular location, Hervey Bay is protected from much of the currents and winds by Fraser Island. Because of this it doesn't break too often, but when it does it can provide a good day surfing that is suitable for everybody.
-
Beach
-
The beach is quite long and sandy, and is often more or less empty of other surfers. The climate is subtropical and mild, with the water reaching average low of about 20° C in winter and an average high of about 27° C in summer.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Conditions are best when the wind and the swell are coming from the same directions, which can be the north, north-west or west. It works on both rising and falling tides, and anything except low tide. It needs to have a few days of wind at over 20 knots before it will break, but when it does it will start working at less than 1 m and hold up to about 2 m or so. Breaking both right and left over a sandbar, the waves are pretty powerless and don't carry much speed but they are still fun. The length is a bit better than most other places on this coast, with an average day reaching between 100 - 150 m and a good day reaching 300 m and maybe even over 400 m.

Facilities
-
Parking is right by the beach, and there is plenty of it although you are probably best parking towards the back to avoid having people cleaning their surf boards on your bonnet. The city is growing in popularity with more tourists coming every year, and has plenty to entertain you when you aren't surfing.

Safety
-
Don't get too close to the jetty, but apart from that there are no hazards here.
