General Information
Level:1-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Hohen-Wieschendorf or High Wieschendorf is located on the beautiful natural Baltic coast of north Germany and is becoming increasingly popular with tourists due to its lovely beaches and good summer weather. The area is widely used for sailing as well as for all types of surfing. Its shallow waters make it suitable for all levels of ability. There is no real season here although the winters are very cold.

Beach
-
There is a beautiful sandy beach which is long and wide and has plenty of space for everyone, except in the summer months of July and August when it is packed with holiday makers. You either need to arrive very early in the morning or give it a miss until the weather is not so good. The beach ends to the south with a jetty and the water quickly becomes very deep there. You get here by driving through the village on Hohen Wieschendorf where you will find a large parking lot. Parking fees apply.

Wind&Waves
-
As with most of this region, the winds are predominantly frontal westerlies with depressions and are best from fall to spring. The summer winds are lighter but you can get lucky and pick up the occasional nice north east or east wind, although not too often. NNW is sideshore to the left. The spot works best with NNW, N, NE and E. The water is clean with shallow access and flat water close to the shore. Further out you get some small waves about 1 meter) which provide a lot of fun. Be careful near the jetty, however, because the water goes deep very quickly. The summers are good here and the water reaches a maximum of 22 degrees, dropping down to about 15 degrees during fall and spring. Outside temperatures can get as high as 30 degrees in the summer, dropping down to about 15 degrees in fall and spring. The winters are very cold and hardy surfers need to wear a thick wetsuit, mask, gloves and shoes in order to surf.

Facilities
-
There is nothing much at this beach and you need to head into Hohen Wieschendorf for a small selection of shops, bars and restarants. If you want to party away the evenings, then your best bet is to drive into Wismar which has plenty of nightlife.
-
Safety
-
Stay well away from the jetty to the south of the beach and look out for crowds in the summer months.
