General Information

Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — October 31

This place takes advantage of the waves that are created by the rocky reef at the south end of San Onofre Beach.  It is suitable for everybody, beginners or otherwise, and is a quiet relaxing spot that feels like it is out in the country despite being just to the south of San Clemente.

Beach

There is plenty of parking available nearby, but depending how close you can get you might have a 5 or 10 minute walk to the beach.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The conditions are best here when the wind is coming from the south-west or the south, and the swell is coming from the south or the south-east. You should be here when the water is at the law mid tide position and when the tide is falling, and then the waves will start at less than 1 m and hold up to a maximum of about 3 m. It is a beach break, both right and left, and the waves are fast and powerful, not to mention hollow and plenty of fun. The only thing the lets this place down a little bit is the length which rarely gets beyond about 50 m.

Facilities

Lifeguards patrol the beach, and there are public toilets and showers here too.  There is a camp ground inland, but if you want the comfort of the big city then San Clemente is only a short drive away.

Safety

There are quite a few rocks here which you will want to avoid, and the same can be said for some of the locals who hang out here.
