General Information

Level:3-10 Season:January 1 — August 31

Hope Town is the home of one of the last manual lighthouses in the world, and it makes a fantastic site as you watch it work at night.  All watersports enthusiasts are welcome here, though they need to have a bit of experience under their belts to get the best out of it.

Beach

The beach is a decent size and is mostly sand with a few rocks thrown in for good measure. You don't get any crowds here, and as the climate is similar to south Florida you can expect the water to be warm all year round.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The best time to be here is between January and August, if you come in later than that you're risking getting caught up in one of the frequent hurricanes that come through the area. The wind is best when blowing from the north, north-east, east or south-east and will give anything between 10 and 20 knots. The water is never flat but anyone who likes wave riding or surfing will like it here as the waves can reach up to 3 m high.

Facilities

Hope Town has a few hotels and Inns, and also plenty of houses that can be rented.  There are no facilities on the beach itself, but the town is right behind it so that doesn't really make much difference.  The place feels a little bit surreal at first as golf carts are the main mode of transport on the island, although they are barred from the centre of town, but you soon get used to it.

Safety

The hazards here are the rocks on the beach and the coral that grows on the reef by the break - as usual it's pretty sharp and will easily cut you if you catch it.
