Ilha de Tavira is a sand bar island that is reached by ferry from Torre d'Aires in Portgual's Algave region. The beach spot can be easily reached by boat or foot across the Ria Formosa. It is a popular spot for kitesurfers and windsurfers of all abilities. The season is mainly from March to October although off season is possible if you are fully booted and suited.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach is large and sandy with all the space that you could possibly want. The space to the ocean side just seems to stretch on forever. You can get here from Torre d'Aires either by river boat, by foot or you can board across.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds are predominantly south west from March to October with a speed between 12-16 knots. The rest of the year experiences east or south east winds which are between 10-14 knots and nowhere near as constant as the south west winds. The winds are thermal and the best directions are those already mentioned. When the tide is low Torre d'Aires has practically no water and so you may prefer to cross to the island. If the tide is up, then Torre d'Aires is a great place to practice new stunts. The ocean has more waves and there is lovely soft sand all year round. The summers are warm and you can get by with just a pair of shorts, but come the winter months you will need a wetsuit.
