General Information

Level:4-10 Season:December 1 — September 30

Just a couple of hours drive from San Juan, this is a tough beach break that demands respect.  For those surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers who like large waves it’s a great place, but you have to have the experience to handle it.

Beach

The beach is fairly small, but it feels a lot bigger than it really is and as there aren’t crowds here you will still have the space to set up gear and launch a kite safely.  As you’d expect, the climate is warm and sunny all year round and the temperatures are warm, with no need for a wetsuit.

Wind&Waves

Wave spot

December to April provides the most reliable conditions, though good conditions can still be found until September.  You get a solid trade wind that blows in from the east, and while it’s reliable the speed can vary from 10 knots to around 25 knots.  The water is clear and tide doesn’t really have any impact.  For surfers, it’s a beach break with some heavy waves that can reach up to 4m high, or even bigger if you head outside the protection of the bay.

Facilities

There is a bit of accommodation available in nearby Isabella, but it’s not really a party town.  You can park almost on the beach itself, or just walk from the town if you are relying on public transport.  Many people will just make it a day trip from San Juan, which has much more to offer.

Safety

This is a dangerous beach break if you don’t have the experience to handle it, and there are no lifeguards to pull you out.
