Situated on the windy western coast of Corfu, Issos beach is a very popular spot for surfers, wind surfers, kite surfers of all levels and abilities. Issos offers a lovely long expanse of beach and even in full summer when it gets busy with tourists, there is still plenty of room to spark up your board. The best times to surf here are from April through to October when the thermal winds kick in.

Beach

Issos Beach is a vast beach at over 2 kms long, backed by dunes and made up of soft sand. It is also very wide which makes it easy to take off and land from. To get here you will need to head south out of Corfu Town on the main road following the signs for Issos and the beach, Turn right at the sign for the beach and follow it down until you find an empty spot.

Wind&Waves

The predominant wind direction here is south westerly or variations thereof. Winds generally start off lighter in the mornings, strengthening by the afternoon. It is not however uncommon for the Mistral to blow in giving you strong wind conditions for around 3 days. The water quality here is clean and conditions are flat to choppy depending upon the wind. The water temperature hovers somewhere between 12-26 degrees depending upon the time of year so you may want to suit up accordingly.

The infrastructure here is pretty good. The beach itself has shower and toilet facilities plus a number of eateries close at hand. The town itself has a larger number of restaurants, and bars and plenty of accommodation. The beach also has an equipment rental shop as well as a fully manned rescue center.

Safety

This is a fairly safe spot with a nice long and wide beach just be on the lookout for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer season.
