General Information
Level:0-10 Season:June 1 — September 30 -
This is a great little spot for both kite surfing and windsurfing. The island is man-made and it sits between Port Gardner and Possession Sound, and because of this it gets some interesting winds and currents although you don't need to be skilled to be able to out here.
-
Beach
-
The beach here is perfect for kiting. It is sandy, long, and wide, and it never gets crowded. The air and water temperatures here are also relatively mild compared to the rest of Washington, with air temperatures in the low to mid 20’s in summer.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The wind here is a thermal wind, and the main direction and the best direction is when it comes from the north-west giving you a side onshore. It tends to be fairly light, only ever reaching a maximum of about 16 knots, but it does blow steadily and the best time to be here is on a low tide in the afternoon or evening between June and September.
-
Facilities
-
The island is a state Park and is almost completely undeveloped. In fact, you will need to take the ferry over here and then walk to the other side of the land to get to the beach. If you need anything, then the city of Everett is close by on the mainland.
-
Safety
-
The current here is moderate strength, running at about one or two knots, so you need to be aware of this and able to handle it. There are also plenty of other watercraft out, and you need to be able to keep your distance from them.
