General Information
Level:3-10 Season:December 1 — September 30 -
Up in the northwest of the island, this spot is exposed to the wind and the swell from the ocean and produces some great waves. Surfers, kitesurfers and windsurfers all come out here, but as the conditions are a bit more challenging than usual an intermediate or better rating is required.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and small, but it is clear of obstacles and owing to the fact it is away from the main population centres it never gets anything like a crowd on it. The climate around here is warm and humid, with frequent showers, and the temperatures approach 30 C for both air and water so you can leave your wetsuit at home – just bring sun protection.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best winds are found between December and September, blowing from the east. The windspeeds can be a little unpredictable and can provide speeds between 10 and 25 knots, and varying between side offshore to side onshore. The water around here is pristine, absolutely crystal clear, and you will find waves of varying sizes depending on the swell and wind speed. With bigger swells and stronger winds you’ll get waves that reach up to 4m high, though they won’t be too heavy.
-
Facilities
-
The only way to get here is to drive, and it’s about 2 hours away from San Juan so well within reach of a day trip. There aren’t any facilities around here, except for room to park close to the beach, but if you need any food and drink then the small town of Isabella is only a short distance away.
-
Safety
-
The bottom is rocky in some parts, and there often a lot of sea urchins that you should avoid treading on.
