General Information

Level:0-10 Season:November 1 — February 28

This is an exposed rivermouth that provides good conditions for both beginners and experienced kitesurfers and windsurfers.  There is a lagoon area with very easy water, and an outside area with which is a bit more of a challenge.  The area is part of a series of islands to the north of the Gold Coast, and will feel quite remote compared to the mainland spots.

Beach

The only access to this spot is by boat, but once you are here you’ll find yourself on a large sandy beach that has plenty of room to launch, land or set up gear.  You don’t tend to get any crowds here for obvious reasons.  Water temperatures will reach about 28C in summer, and 20 – 23 C in winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

It’s a fairly short season here, at least compared to other Queensland spots, and you’ll find conditions are only really good from November to February.  The winds are best when coming from the northeast or southeast, and will come in at anything from 15 to 30 knots for 3 or 4 days every week.  At high tide you get a lagoon with very flat water, and outside the rivermouth you’’ll get some small waves that will be up to about 1m high.

Facilities

There is plenty of room for anchoring a boat, just watch where you do it as the water level drops considerably at low tide.  There are no structures or facilities here though, so bring everything on the boat with you.

Safety

Watch out for the boat traffic, especially the jet skis that move fast and often don’t worry too much about anybody else.
