General Information
Level:2-10 Season:November 1 — March 31 -
Just to the south-east of Honolulu, this can be something of a fickle spot but is excellent when it fires. It is good for surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers, although conditions are probably too challenging for beginners.
-
Beach
-
The beach here is fairly small and sandy, and as it's close to the main part of Honolulu it can get busy, especially in summer. Despite it getting busy occasionally, it still has a relaxed friendly atmosphere typical of Hawaii.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind directions here are from the south or the south-west, and the best direction is when it comes from the north, south or south-west. The winds aren’t very strong, but they are enough for kiters and windsurfers to use and are best from November to March. On the rare occasions when the wind blows strongly from the north it gives some excellent waves that surfers will enjoy, and this is most likely to be in summer when you'll get waves that reach up to 3m or maybe more on a good day.
-
Facilities
-
Although this is right on the edge of Honolulu, this beach doesn't really have any facilities of its own. You have to go into the city itself if you need anything, although that's not exactly a hardship and it offers a wide variety of accommodation, entertainment and nightlife. Parking here is close to the beach, just off the main road, and only a minute or two walk from the shore.
-
Safety
-
The coral on the reef is a hazard as it is sharp and can easily cut, and sometimes the beach can have a number of bystanders on it.
