General Information
Level:0-10 Season:May 1 — October 1 -
Translating as Canoe Beach, this has long been a popular watersports area and now you get surfers, windsurfers and kiters out alongside the canoes. Conditions are easy for all, so beginners are welcome, and it’s got a good atmosphere.
-
Beach
-
The beach is largely sandy although you need to keep an eye out for rocks, and as it isn’t very big it can often be crowded. Temperatures are warm all year round and the water never actually gets below 22c.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best time to be here is between May and October when the winds blow all day and do it consistently, with the main and best direction being from the northwest. They can be strong at times, easily over 20 knots and sometimes over 30, so care is needed if you don’t have much strong wind experience. As far as the water is concerned, there are choppy areas inside the reef while outside will give small or medium waves that reach up to 3m, and this is the areas where the surfers will want to be.
-
Facilities
-
This beach is fairly well kitted out in terms of facilities. Lifeguards patrol, so make sure you know the rules as they will enforce them, and there are public showers and toilets as well as parking nearby. There are also camping facilities for anyone who intends to make a weekend of it and really get into the atmosphere.
-
Safety
-
Kiting is restricted at certain times, so make sure you know the rules, especially as lots of beginners come out here and aren’t always under full control. Launching a kite can be tricky when its busy, not to mention the trees on the shore and rocks on the shore.
