General Information
Level:1-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Situated on the gorgeous Greek island of Kos lies the resort of Kefalos. It is a very popular spot for wind surfers and kite surfers of all levels and abilities. It does get busy during the summer with beach goers and bathers and there may well be restrictions in place during these times. Having said this, the best months for surfing here are June, July and August, when the thermals kick in.
-
Beach
-
The beach at Kefalos hugs its way round a very long bay and is medium to large in size. It is made up of soft white sand with a few pebbles and is hazard and obstacle free. To get here you will need to keep heading west on the island following the signs for Kefalos. Here you will find the beach where there is ample parking.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind direction here is north west and this is also the best direction for surfing here. During June through to August there is a 80 -90 percent chance of wind and after midday the thermals kick in. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are flat to choppy with the occasional small wave depending upon wind speed and direction. The water temperature remains around 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of year so in the winter you will need to suit up.
-
Facilities
-
There is accommodation close by and ample parking, there is also a sprinkling of tavernas if you fancy a drink and a bite to eat. Kefalos town has a good selection of bars, shops and restaurants and the nightlife is fairly good here too.
-
Safety
-
This is a fairly safe spot. Just be aware of swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer season.
