General Information

Level:0-3 Season:May 1 — September 30

This is a beginners spot only, and like much of Fire Island whether it works or not changes from day to day. The island seems to have its own rules when it comes to waves, and at anytime parts are being eroded or built up again. Sandbars frequently appear and disappear and change the character of the place almost overnight.

Beach

The beach is clean and sandy, and there’s more than enough to go around. The climate here tends to be a little bit cooler in summer than the rest of Long Island, getting to a comfortable 20-22c.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The swell at this spot starts working at about 1m, maybe a little bit bigger on a good day, and holds up to about 2.5m or so. It’s a beach break, both right and left, and there isn’t anything that makes the waves stand out although they are still a bit of fun. Length is almost always short, reaching a maximum of 50m, but a good day can see over 100m – it’s just a pity these days are difficult to predict. Because of the fickle nature of it, and the difficulty getting here, it’s a fairly lonely spot and never, ever gets crowded.

Facilities

You really need to get a boat across to the spot as vehicle access to the island is very limited. It’s also a summer community, so there aren’t a wide variety of facilities here although there are a few stores and places to eat.

Safety

There aren’t any dangers here, it’s just a fun spot for beginners to enjoy.
