General Information
Level:0-10 Season:April 1 — November 30 -
Just to the north of Mission Beach, you'll find this old world town that has managed to resist the temptation to turn itself into a tourist trap. Kiters and windsurfers will find this to be a decent place no matter what experience they have.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy with a fair bit of grass behind it that can be used for setting up rigging. There aren't very many locals here and tourists don't tend to call in, so it is crowded all the time. The weather is warm all year round, with the water approaching 30° C.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best conditions are found here between April and November, with trade winds coming from the east or southeast. They blow consistently throughout the day and average 15 – 20 knots. The water conditions vary according to where you go – the north end of the beach is flat, while the south end has waves that increase the further you go and can reach up to 3m high.
-
Facilities
-
There is a good range of facilities here. There are campsites close by and if you want a bit more comfort then there are a few caravan parks dotted along the seafront. The beach has toilets, showers and food outlets on it or close by, and there is a shop where you can buy or rent gear.
-
Safety
-
A stinger suit is recommended as there can be lots of jellyfish here between November and April. The reef also has a lot of sharp coral, so be careful not to cut yourself on it.
