Situated a short drive north from the busy tourist resort of Alicante lies the beach at La Albufereta. It is a popular spot with kite and wind surfers of all levels and abilities. It does get pretty crowded here particularly during July August and September, so There may well be time restrictions and restricted surf zones. It is good to check before you set off. Although there is no season here, it might be an idea to avoid the tourists and come during the winter months (from October through to April) that way you might be able to pick your spot.

Beach

The beach here is small, but fairly wide and is made up of soft white sand To find it you simply drive northeast out of Alicante for around 5 kms, where you will see the signs for La Albufereta. Here you can park virtually at the beach.

The wind here is frontal and comes at you mainly from an easterly direction however during the winter this changes to south southwest and southwest. This is a really good direction for surfing here. The wind speed hovers around the 8 knot mark for most of the year however at times, it can get pretty gusty. The water quality is crystal clear and is generally flat to choppy. The water temperature stays around a comfortable 16 degrees even in the winter. So a normal long wetsuit is needed. During the rest of the year you can get away with a shorty or shorts.

Parking

There is accommodation close by coupled with plenty of parking. The short drive or walk into Albufereta itself has everything that you require. If you want to let your hair down then the 5 km drive back to Alicante is definitely worth a visit.

Safety

Underwater obstacles

Beware of the rocky moles to the north and south of the beach, and keep an eye out for swimmers and bathers during the summer months.
