General Information

Level:0-10 Season:October 1 — February 28

There aren't too many lakes in Queensland, and even fewer where you can enjoy watersports. This is one of them though, and windsurfers and kite surfers of all abilities are welcome here.

Beach

There is no actual beach here, just a couple of grassy areas that can be used for rigging. When the wind is onshore, kiters will need to walk out into the water to launch. There is plenty of room here as the only visitors are those into kite surfing or windsurfing, and the water temperatures are warm during the season with only shorts required.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

October to February gives the best conditions here, with the winds blowing from the east or the south-east. As thermal winds they tend to reach their peak later on in the day, and will average between 15 and 20 knots.  They are still gusty though, so just be careful you don't get caught by surprise.  The water is shallow, no more than waist deep for about 300 m from shore and less than head height for the rest of it.  The surface is either flat or choppy depending on the strength of the wind.

Facilities

There is a kiting school here which visitors can book lessons with.  Parking is available on the road by the side of the lake, but the area is pretty much undeveloped and you'll need to head to one of the nearby towns like Noosaville or Peregian Springs for any supplies or facilities.

Safety

Beware of stingrays, but they are not uncommon out here and only rarely cause any sort of problem. There is nothing else here that you could consider to be a hazard.
