General Information
Level:3-10 Season:March 1 — September 30 -
Grapevine Lake is a large reservoir just to the north of Dallas, and is a well known kiting and windsurfing destination. It's worth paying a visit if you are in the area, and the atmosphere here is fairly laid back.
-
Beach
-
The beach is small and grassy, with a gentle slope down to the shore and room for rigging behind it. It can get crowded here in July and August when the holiday season is in full swing, but the rest of the year you will have plenty of room to do your own thing. Air temperatures are easily into the 30s in the middle of summer, dropping to an average of about seven or 8° C in the middle of winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
You get the best wind here when it is coming from the north or the north-east, though it isn't particularly strong and will usually be between 10 and 15 knots most of the year. The most consistent and strongest winds are probably found from March to September, and the water here is usually flat although it can be choppy when the winds are on the stronger side. It is independent of tide, and the water here is clean.
-
Facilities
-
There is a school here for anybody who wants to take lessons, and the town of Grapevine itself is a decent size and offers a range of things to do when you aren't out on the water.
-
Safety
-
There aren't any hazards here as long as you use your head, so just relax and enjoy it.
