General Information

Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31

Lavrio is located on the tip of the Attiki Peninsular and just a few years ago was a pretty miserable and desoloate place. More recently, however, Lavrio has changed its image totally thanks to a new ferry terminal and marina being created to serve the Greek islands. It is now bustling with activity and is a popular spot for kitesurfers and windsurfers who have at least intermediate experience.

Beach

Sand Gradual descent

The beach lies to the south of the Port and is large and sandy. There is plenty of space for everyone although it can get quite crowded during the summer months. You can get here by heading to Lavrio and heading south of the port. Parking may be a problem in the summer months.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The winds are predominantly easterly and westerly thermals and are best during the summer months. The water is crystal clear and tends to be flat, although sometimes there are small waves depending on the strength of the wind. The summers are warm and the water hovers around a pleasant 24 degrees with air temperatures in the thirties. It is easy to get sunburnt here so make sure you wear a lycra for protection. Come the chilly winter months and you will most definitely need to wear a full length wetsuit.

Facilities

Parking

There is nothing much at the beach itself but the Port of Lavrio is thriving and you will find a good selection of bars, restaurants and accommodation, although prices can be quite high. There is also plenty of nightlife in and around the port.

Safety

Don't go too close to the harbor and watch out for shipping traffic.
