General Information

Level:1-10 Season:March 1 — September 30

You’ll find both kitesurfers and catamarans out at this place, though obviously you need to keep your distance from each other. It is suitable for everyone but absolute beginners due to the traffic and other hazards.

Beach

Nice sandy beach here with a decent length and width. It’s right in the south part of Santa Barbara, and to reach this beach just head south on Highway 101 then get onto Castillo St, heading for the shore. Take a right onto Shoreline Drive and you’ll find yourself passing the beach – parking is right by the catamarans, you can’t miss it, and the shore is only a couple of minutes walk away. The launching area is in front of the catamarans and you’ll need to make sure you can stay outside the designated swimming area.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

You tend to get a good venturi wind here, coming from the southwest at a range from 18 – 25 knots and giving a cross-shore direction. Wave and freerider style prefer this spot, and the best winds are in the afternoon and evening from March to September although it’s possible to get some wind at any time. There are few people out kiting in the week, but it can get crowded on a sunny weekend in summer. The water is pretty clean and usually clear.

Facilities

There are only showers here, nothing else, but it’s only a short drive back into the city. Santa Barbara is a popular tourist resort so it is well appointed, with enough choice of accommodation, eating and entertainment to keep anyone happy for a while.

Safety

There can be a lot of traffic on the water, and there are some submerged rocks you’ll want to avoid.
