Situated on the beautiful Greek Island of Lesvos, close to the port town of Sigri lies the beach at Limena. It is a very popular spot for surfers, kite surfers and wind surfers of all levels and abilities. The beach itself doesn't get that crowded even during the busy months of July and August so it is possible to surf here all season through. The best times are from May through to September when the thermal winds kick in.

Beach

The beach here is large and is made up of soft white sand. It is pretty safe with no hidden obstacles of hazards. To get here you will need to drive out of the port town of Sigri for around 5 minutes following the signs for Limena and the beach. Here you can park.

Wind&Waves

The winds here are mainly thermal and frontal and the main wind directions are north, northwest and north northwest. These are also the best directions in which to surf. During the summer the thermal winds kick in at around noon and 90 percent of the time it is good surfing conditions. In the winter months the wind becomes less frequent and much more gustier. The water quality is crystal clear and conditions are shallow with small to medium waves pretty much all of the time. The medium waves are up to around 3 metres. The water temperature stays somewhere between 14-26 degrees depending upon the time of the year so in winter you may well want to suit up.

There is a campsite close by which offers accommodation, there are also eating establishments in the form of Tavernas along the beach. If you prefer a little more hustle and bustle, then the Sigri is a short drive away and this has everything that you need, including some pretty decent nightlife.

Safety

The spot here at Limena is very safe and beginner friendly. Just keep a watch out for swimmers and bathers in and around the water during the busy summer months.
