General Information

Level:0-6 Season:April 1 — September 30

Limone is the western leg of a triangle, including Torbole and Malcesine, which encompasses some of the best windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing conditions on Lake Garda. Located on the western shore, it is also the northernmost spot for kitesurfers as they are disallowed on the water further north. It is a 20 minute ferry ride across the lake from Malcesine and is located 165 km (103 miles) from Milan. Lake winds bring cooling effects to the Mediterranean climate; summer temperatures average 29 °C (84°C) and winters are around 15 °C (59°C)

Beach

The beach is pebbly and no launch is permitted from the beach. However, after a 5 minute boat ride, you are in an excellent spot. A lift service is best for beginners; it consists of being taken out and followed by a support boat that will ensure you are upwind and back on shore at day’s end.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

Clean water is flat to choppy. The north Peler wind starts early in the morning between 6-7am. As it is cold even in summer before the sun rises , a full wet suit is needed, switching to a shorty in the afternoon. Peter can be a gusty wind, reaching between 6-7 bft but eases off as the day gets hot and dies off around 11am. As the winds are unstable close to the shore, a boat launch is required. The afternoon Ora wind blows south and reaches between 4-5 bft, which makes it ideal for beginners.

Facilities

As a tourist resort, there is a wide choice of lodgings from including hotels, villas, apartments, and farm houses. Nearby Riva and Torbole have a better nightlife. Schools for windsurfing and kitesurfing provide lessons for all levels, and rentals. Mountain biking is another popular sport.

Safety

A beach launch is not permitted. Wind conditions change rapidly and if the lake water on the horizon looks dark, a storm is approaching. The beach is especially crowded in August. Ships and ferries have the right of way.
