General Information
Level:6-10 Season:May 1 — October 31 -
On the end of the northern fork at the east end of Long Island, this feels like a remote spot, especially when you notice there are no signs of habitation around you. Kiters come here for that reason, and although it can be fickle it’s a good spot for experienced kiters who can handle it.
-
Beach
-
The beach is tiny, really only enough room for two or three riders at most, but fortunately most people won’t make the effort to bring their kit this far. It is soft sand, and clear of rocks and other hazards.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The main wind direction here is from the northwest, and that also happens to be the best direction. It’s pretty consistent from May to October, and you’ll have winds blowing 10 and 15 knots. It’s best caught on a falling tide, as a rising tide is less consistent though still useable. If you stay on the inside, it’s pretty smooth, but the closer you get towards the bay mouth the choppier it will get and you might even see a few waves at over 1m just around the mouth.
-
Facilities
-
There are no facilities here. Access is only by boat, as there are no roads close enough to get you in, so you’ll need to come round the bay from the north.
-
Safety
-
There can be strong currents here, especially when the tide is turning, and you’ll probably see a few jet skis zipping about too. If it’s a good weekend you might see a few swimmers, so keep clear of them.
