General Information
Level:5-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Los Nietos is a slightly quieter spot than other more known places situated on the Mar Menor. There are strategically placed wave breakers/groynes that you will have to negotiate and because of this reason it is not a great place for beginners. Having said all this it is still popular with wind surfers and kite surfers of intermediate and expert abilities. June, July and August get pretty busy here, but not as busy as other spots on the lake. There is no particular season, but the best winds occur from October through to April

Beach
-
Los Nietos has a small sandy beach that is backed by a concrete promenade and behind this is a row of trees. How you find it is to get on to the A312 Northbound when you come out of Cartagena, you will then see signs for Los Nietos and the Mar Menor lake, drive to the lake and park.

Wind&Waves
-
The wind here is predominantly east northeasterly, however the best wind direction for surfing here is a stiff south south westerly breeze, which tends to blow more in the winter, particularly during the month of February. Wind speed averages around 8 knots and remains constant throughout the year. The water quality is crystal clear and is flat to choppy, with a large shallow area of around 150 meters or so. The water temperature remains around 18 degrees even during the winter months, but can reach 26 -28 degrees during the hot summer season.
-
Facilities
-
There is accommodation close by and there is parking. If you need supplies, or some nightlife, then it is best to head back into Cartagena.
-
Safety
-
Keep an eye out for the wave breakers/groynes placed along the beach. Also watch out for passing ships and boats in the vicinity. During the summer time watch out for swimmers and bathers in the water.
