General Information
Level:0-10 Season:March 1 — September 30 -
This is a group of seven islands off the coast from Monte Cristi, and all of them are suitable for use by windsurfers and kite surfers of all abilities. The really isn't anything like this anywhere else to compare it to, how often do you get to play with your own group of islands?
-
Beach
-
Each of the islands has its own sandy beach, and although they are only very small it doesn't make much difference – as you are likely to be the only person around here, you have got plenty of room to launch and land a kite. Shorts and sun protection are all you will need throughout the year, as the water and air temperatures are both consistently on the warm side.
-
Wind&Waves
-
The best time to be here is between March and September, when the trade winds are blowing from the north-east or the east and giving regular speeds between 15 and 25 knots. They are fairly consistent, rarely gusty at all, and will blow throughout the day. The state of the water is unaffected by tides, and it is crystal clear and very clean. The surface is usually flat in most winds, but the odd stronger wind can make it a little choppy although you never get any waves.
-
Facilities
-
Obviously, with such a small group of islands there are no facilities at all here. To reach them you will need to take a boat out of Monte Cristo, but that's not too hard to arrange. When you're done surfing, Monte Cristo can provide accommodation, restaurants and nightlife to entertain you.
-
Safety
-
There aren't any hazards out here, it's a place to savour and enjoy.
