General Information

Level:3-10 Season:November 1 — April 30

This might not be the best kiting and windsurfing spot in Hawaii, but it’s still better than many other places and well worth visiting if you are in the area.  It’s suitable for intermediate levels and above.

Beach

The beach is sandy at the point where it meets the shore, with grass and rocky outcrops behind it where you can set up kites.  It’s not very big though, and you’ll have to watch out for trees, bystanders, and the nearby road.  At each end of the beach there are also rocks.  Shorts are all you need on here, the temperature on the beach only varies between about 23-28c all year round.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

The trade winds blow in here and the best time to be out is over winter and spring, November to April, as you’ll get the best north, northeast winds then.  The wind does blow in summer, but it tends to be straight onshore then as it comes more from the east.  The windspeed is from 12-20 knots, but comes in fairly consistently and doesn’t gust too much.  Water is shallow, and it’s usually choppy or small waves so there isn’t anything too hard to handle.

Facilities

Parking is just off the Nalu Road and you’re pretty much on the beach then, just find a spot where you can.  There are also toilets and showers on the beach, but no lifeguards cover this area.

Safety

Mind the rocks at each end of the beach and be especially careful if kiting here as the trees can be a problem.  Once out on the water there is plenty of space but beware of swimmers, rocks and sharp coral on the reefs.
