General Information

Level:0-10 Season:September 1 — May 31

This area often holds kitesurfing competitions, and it is very welcoming of visitors.  Windsurfers can also use the area, and it is suitable for everybody whether they have experience or not.

Beach

The beach is quite long and sandy, with the surface consistency somewhere inbetween fine and coarse.  There are a few launching and landing sites to choose from, and these tend to be out of the way of the other visitors to the beach.  The air and water temperatures are warm all year round, and shorts are all you ever need as the water doesn’t drop below the high twenties, even in winter.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

It is a good long season here, lasting for nine months of the year and only closing down in the winter months.  The wind is best from the north and gives you an average speed of around of 18 knots, but it is more common from the east at 12 – 20 knots.  You’ll sometimes get a  southeast wind too, which is still usable.  The water is shallow and clean, and the surfaced can be either flat or choppy depending on the wind strength.

Facilities

This area is well set up to cater for watersports enthusiasts.  There are rescue facilities on hand if things go wrong, and a store where you can pick up any essential pieces of gear that you need.  The beach has showers and toilets, and there a few places nearby where you can pick up food and drink.  Parking is only a short walk from the beach, and for accommodation and post-water entertainment the town of Tannum Sands is close by.

Safety

There are no safety issues here, but you should check out local rules and etiquette before jumping in.
