General Information

Level:6-10 Season:May 1 — August 31

This place can be temperamental and you’ll only find experienced surfers here, but if you have the patience to wait for a good day it can be excellent. Its quiet most of the time and you’ll have plenty of room to play. On average, it will give decent surf 150 days a year but it can change from one day to the next.

Beach

You’ll want to drive here from Point Arena, but parking is easy and it is only a short walk to the sandy beach.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot

This place is known for its consistency and is a good place to come when every other break is flat. It’s a beach break to both right and left, and the waves are short but powerful. It’s best with a northwest swell, when it starts working at less than 1m and builds to about 2.5m. The paddle out can be difficult sue to rips pulling you back, but once you break through to the line you’ll find you have miles of empty surf. As with the rest of the coast here, it’s cold in the water and even the air temperature never gets above 72F.

Facilities

You can camp in Manchester Beach State Park itself, but most people choose to stay in Point Arena which is only 2 miles up Highway 1. This is geared up to the summer tourist trade and has plenty of places to stay, eat and be entertained.

Safety

Keep an eye out for sharks, and be careful of the rips both on the way out and coming back in – after your ride, paddle hard back to the lineup or you’ll risk facing a difficult shorebreak.
