General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
This isn’t a bad break, with a lot of appeal because it is right in front of the city. It’s often thought of as a beginners spot, but in reality the deep water coming onto a shallow shore means that it can be tricky when big.
-
Beach
-
The beach is surprisingly empty during the week, but rapidly fills up at weekends. It’s just one part of a very long sandy beach running down the side of the city, and it’s backed with grassy areas where you can just sit and watch. Water temperatures can reach highs of about 20 C in February, and fall to lows around 13 C in September.
-
Wind&Waves
-
This spot is best with the wind from the northwest, west or southwest and the swell from the southeast, east or northeast. The swell will start building at less than 1m and work its way up to around 3m, and will do this at all tide positions and both rising and falling tides. It is a beach break, left and right, and the waves can be fun due to their size even if they are only slow and weak. Length is usually short at around 50m, but some days can see that extended considerably to 150 m.

Facilities
-
This is right in front of Napier, and you can walk here without the need for a car. The city has everything you could need, from accommodation to entertainment, nightlife and good restaurants.
-
Safety
-
The odd current can pick up to a good few knots around here, so visitors without much experience should be careful to go out at slack times.
