Located just 18 kilometers away from the capital, lies the wonderful beach of Micri Vigla which is made up of two beaches divided by an impressive hill. The north beach captures the meltemi (north winds specific to the cyclades) and makes this spot a mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers. It is an internationally known resort and has a variety of surfs shops renting out some incredible gear. The southern beach on the other side of the hill is known as a family beach. The spot is best suited to intermediate or experienced surfers since when the wind blows hard in the summer, conditions can sometimes be quite treacherous.

Wind&Waves

Flat water spot Regular wind

The meltemi occurs mainly during June to September and occasionally during May and October and when this is present the wind blows from the north at speeds up to 5 B.ft. Usually the wind kicks in around 2 pm and blows until sunset. It is also not uncommon for winds to reach 6-7 B.ft and blow constantly for around 10 days. This bay has some of the strongest winds on the island of Naxos and will often be at least 2 B.ft more than anywhere else and quite gusty, so it is important to take special care here. The water is crystal clear and there are some nice shallow areas which are good for beginners or those surfers practicing new stunts.
