General Information
Level:0-10 Season:January 1 — December 31 -
Most of the time this wave will suit everybody from beginners upwards, but once in a while it gets really good and the tracks the pros. It is in a very convenient location, right in the city. The bar is a sandbar, by the way, not a drinking bar.
-
Beach
-
The beach is sandy and a good size, but it's a popular place and is crowded during the week and even worse at weekends, so if you like solitude you aren't going to find it here. Sea temperatures average about 15° C in summer and about 12° C in winter.
-
Wind&Waves
-
Wind is best when coming from the west or the south-west and the swell is good when coming from the north-west, west or south-west. It works on both rising and falling tides, and is best at the low and mid tide positions. The swell will start working at 1 m or so and hold up to around 2.5 m. It is a beach break, both right and left, with the waves relatively fast and powerful and also hollow in the winter, though they will be slower and weaker in summer. Length is usually short and will struggle to get beyond 50 m, but again a good winters day can see this improved to around 150 m.
-
Facilities
-
Lifeguards patrol during the day, and there are restrooms and showers on the beach. Food and accommodation is also plentiful within a short distance, but be prepared for a walk if you drive here as there is isn't much parking close to the beach.
-
Safety
-
When it is firing all the locals come here, though it's usually quite mellow. Watch out for strong currents, and pollution coming out of the harbour mouth.
